If you’re in search of a premier meeting and event venue in Salt Lake City, you will want to explore the Natural History Museum of Utah. Dramatic architecture complete with copper mined from Kennecott Utah Copper’s Bingham Canyon Mine welcomes guests with grandiose impact! The museum offers 163,000 square feet of space that can be utilized in many creative ways for corporate, social or non-profit events that will make history and unforgettable memories, regardless of the occasion. With a full museum buyout, you can accommodate 1,500+ guests or 400 guests in just the lobby alone. Ideal for events of all sizes!
Full Museum Rental
If you want the true NHMU experience, the full museum rental is an ideal option. Offering diverse space to host up to 1,500 guests on a flow and/or 230-340 for a seated dinner, the Rio Tinto Center space is perfect for all occasions. Enjoying all five levels of the museum, your guests will gain exclusive access to all eleven exhibits, plus all the other stunning spaces throughout the venue. And for planners, each exhibit provides a set-in-stone theme to make event planning that much easier. The Native Voices exhibit explores the past of Utah’s eight tribes, the Gems & Minerals exhibit adds a little sparkle for an elevated event, the Great Salt Lake brings water and nature to your event and so much more. From weddings to corporate networking events or fundraising galas, the NHMU provides something unique for each event experience, making it a truly unforgettable venue!
Canyon & Canyon Terrace Rental
The Canyon and Canyon Terrace rental option is perhaps the most popular at the NHMU. Located on the second level of the museum, your guests will be able to explore this magnificent signature space that’s designed to mirror the slot canyons of Southern Utah. With crisp concrete floors accented by a three-story glass wall with unparalleled views of the Salt Lake Valley, it truly takes your breath away! The indoor space flows seamlessly into the outdoor terrace for a simple transition for cocktail hour or different areas of your networking event. The space can host 400 for a standing reception and up to 340 for a seated dinner. It is only available for after-hours events due to the museum operations.
Level 5 Space Rental
The Level 5 rental options offer you access to a multitude of spaces, each with a different personality for your event. For corporate daytime events, the Swaner Forum space provides a blank canvas that you can turn into the ideal setup for a board meeting, corporate training, breakfast networking event or birthday luncheon, or take it into the evening with a reception setup. This is the only space that is available for rental during daytime operation hours in the entire museum. For evening events, you will also gain access to two magnificent exhibits—Sky and Native Voices—which cover Utah’s natural and indigenous history. They also give access to outdoor terraces with sprawling views of the surrounding Wasatch Front and Salt Lake City foothills! These spaces give a stunning vantage point to truly take in the beauty of our state.
Gallery Add-Ons
One option many couples and organizations enjoy is the gallery add-on option. With this, you can rent the Level 5 space or the Canyon & Canyon Terrace, but add on exclusive access to exhibits that tie in well with your event. On wedding days, couples will add gallery access for guests in between the ceremony and reception for a memorable cocktail hour experience! There are three options you can choose from. The first is the Special Exhibit, which offers access to the Level 3 special exhibitions gallery. The second is Explore 150 Million Years of Awesome, which provides access to Levels 2 & 3 to stroll through millions of years of Utah history. And lastly, Uniquely Utah provides access to Levels 3 to 5 so guests can uncover the natural history of our incredible state.
