Local catering company wins 3 industry awards; reminds culinary world to not discount Salt Lake as a foodie destination
We are so excited to announce that last Tuesday, March 15th, Salt Lake’s own LUX Catering & Events won 3 Catered Arts Through Innovative Excellence (CATIE) awards at the Catersource and Event Solutions Conference & Tradeshow. The event was held at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada by the International Caterers Association (ICA).
“The recipients of the ICA CATIE Awards are truly the crème de la crème and are chosen by fellow industry professionals for this distinction,” said ICA Executive Director Paula Kreuzburg. “The association is always so impressed by the submissions we receive each year, but these award winners exemplify the talent, the passion and the skills that make our industry so exciting and so competitive.”
LUX Catering & Events was entered for 4 awards, including the Achievement in Catered Excellence (ACE), and won 3 out of 3 CATIE awards for Best Dessert, Best Tablescape Design, and Best Main Course Plate Presentation. Chris Sanchez, Director of Catering and Events at LeCroissant described winning 3 industry awards as “overwhelming”. Chris went on to say that “because the industry has so many greats that we look up to, to be included as one of them as a trendsetter and visionary, is an honor”. Lux Catering and Events started as a wedding catering and floral designing company over 40 years ago by Pat Slade. Pat’s brother and sister-in-law, John and Kelly Lake, joined as owners in the 90s and they’ve been operating out of their current location at 1578 S 300 W in Salt Lake’s The Neighborhood district for over 25 years now.
Owner Kelly Lake believes these wins are representative of Salt Lake’s culinary scene as a whole. “This is an amazing recognition of where Salt Lake City is right now in terms of wonderful culinary growth – Salt Lake residents’ taste buds have grown up” explains Kelly. In recent years, Salt Lake’s urban landscape has diversified and distinguished its culinary offerings. As such, the city has begun to gain more national buzz. In 2008, Forbes encouraged readers to “get ready to add Salt Lake City to that list” of America’s Up-and-Coming Food Capitals. In 2014, Wine Enthusiast Magazine named Salt Lake as one of the Top 5 New Food Cities, as well as a review of The Rest, a basement speakeasy on Main St, was featured in the New York Times. Just as recently as this February, thrillist.com named Salt Lake City as one of the “10 untapped beer cities poised to blow up”.
Catersource and Event Solutions Brand Director, Ron Bigley, stated that “winners of these three industry awards epitomize the best in catering and events, as the business leaders and creative innovators shaping the industry”. For Kelly Lake, Chris Sanchez, and LUX Catering & Events that means expectations are higher. “It encourages us to keep focusing on pushing the boundaries as well as always providing the highest quality” says Kelly. As for Chris, he believes “this is just the beginning. These awards are indicative of our company’s growth, the growth and exploratory spirit of the culinary scene in Salt Lake, and what we will accomplish in the coming years”.
