ZZ Plant

Caring for a ZZ is easy. This plant does best in low or indirect light, which means you don’t need to place it right in front of a window. As for watering, you can water it every one to two weeks, depending on the season. The ZZ thrives when its soil completely dries out before being watered again.

Snake Plant

The snake plant is another low maintenance, low-light loving plant. Snake plants like their soil to be completely dry in between waterings, meaning you can water every one to two weeks. When watering try to avoid getting the leaves wet as to avoid rotting them. The snake plant is prone to rot, so when you are selecting the soil you will place them in go for a free-draining soil mix. Lastly, make sure the pot you choose has a drainage hole and that it doesn’t get blocked when you water your plant. Taking these beginning steps will make keeping this plant alive so much easier!

Chinese Evergreen

The Chinese evergreen has grown in popularity due to its ease of care. Similar to the snake plant, this evergreen loves to be planted in well-draining soil. It thrives in medium to low light situations. A watering schedule of once a week should be used in the summer and dropped to once every two weeks in the cold of the winter. The leaves on this plant are stunning, but may require a wipe down with a damp towel every few months.

Aloe Vera

The aloe vera plant is from the succulent family and easy to care for! The juice from their leaves can be used to relieve pain from small scratches, scrapes, or burns topically. This plant thrives on bright but indirect sunlight. You want to water this plant generously, but make sure the soil is completely dry in between waterings.

Spider Plant

This is a great Utah house plant due to its love for cooler temperatures. During the summer this plant loves the chilly indoor temperatures due to the AC and in the winter this plant does well next to a chilly window or further away from a heater vent. Spider plants can tolerate forgetfulness well, which makes them an ideal plant for someone who’s new to the houseplant scene. This plant likes bright but indirect light and prefers to be completely dry in between waterings.
